Chauncey Goss is in.
The 45-year-old Sanibel Island resident — and son of former U.S. Congressman and CIA Director Porter Goss — announced Tuesday he's running for the U.S. House of Representative seat currently held by Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers.
While the announcement comes less than a week after Mack announced plans to run for U.S. Senate, Goss said that move had no bearing on his decision.
"The other candidates in the race haven't been a consideration for me," Goss said. "I've been thinking about it for a long time. I've been discussing it with my family and making sure (I have their) support and encouragement."
Goss is no stranger to Washington, D.C.
Goss spent the majority of the last decade working on federal fiscal policy, first in the National Security Division at the Office of Management and Budget where he helped prepare defense budgets.
